Our wedding day can only be summed up as a Magical day. I chose my gown at Kleinfeld and knew the vision I wanted right away. I favorited my Jim Hjelm gown on their website and it was waiting for me in the dressing room as soon as I got there. I tried on this whimsical vision of tulle, sequin flowers, and sheer fabric and knew this was the one. I felt like a princess, but a grown-up version of the princess I dreamed of being as a little girl. It had the perfect amount of sparkle and flair, but the sophistication of a thirty year old woman who knew what she wanted. My dress had capped sleeves but still exuded sexiness, as it cinched my waistline and showcased a sheer keyhole back.
My husband and I met 6 years ago on a dating site. We had an enjoyable first date at a bar called La Bibliotheca in Manhattan. We had drinks and shared our summer plans, even though it was the dead of winter. David told me he had been going to the Jersey Shore, but I told him he MUST try Fire Island. We never followed through on our second date as our busy lives got the best of us. Two years later, I am spending an ordinary night at a bar in Fire Island, and someone taps me on the shoulder. It was David! He said, “Didn’t we go on a date two years ago?” Of course I remembered him. He told me the only reason he was in Fire Island was because of our date two years ago and he has had a house there every summer since our date. We ended up talking all night at the bar and arranged to have our Second date finally when we got back to the city. Ever since that date we were inseparable and four years later we are married! It kind of felt like fate to be reconnected like that.
My wedding style was inspired by the glow of candle light. Candles to me represent warmth, passion, energy, and a shining light. I love the color emitted by candle light when it hits a full champagne glass, and I knew that had to be my color scheme. My bridesmaids could choose any long dress they wanted as long as it was pale pink. Our linens were ivory with a silver threading. The flowers were a mix of White Orchids, Phalaenopsis, Hydrangeas, Roses, and high and low acrylic candelabras with mirrors. I wanted the light given off from the candles to be the real showcase. Our table numbers were also acrylic gold mirrors.
It was very important for me for our guests to have a unique experience and feel catered to. We had an unlimited amount of food at our cocktail hour showcasing 6 stations which included Cuban and Asian duck and a Lower East Side Deli to name a few, a full sushi bar, passed sips and bites that included tacos with small patron bottles, chicken paella skillets with sangria, and sliders with a mini blue moon beer shot. Our entrees included a choice of Chicken and Waffles, Branzino, and Braised Short Ribs. I love food, and didn’t want the standard and predictable wedding food. Our guests were treated to a dessert parade, as waiters carried trays of shot glasses made out of chocolate chip cookies filled with milkshakes, ice cream cones, brownies, and s’mores served out of mason jars. Shots were passed on the dance floor all night to keep the party going, as the danced to our amazing 12 piece band, and on the way out we had a full hot pretzel station for our guests to enjoy on their way home. Polished Glam Elegance would definitely sum up my wedding style.
